ABOUT IMPARJA TELEVISION

Imparja Television is a 100% First Nations owned, independent, not-for-profit commercial television broadcaster based in Alice Springs, and is recognised as one of the original First Nations television broadcasters in Australia.

Established in 1987, Imparja was a pioneer in First Nations broadcasting, paving the way for First Nations voices, stories and perspectives to be seen and heard on Australian television. Today, Imparja operates 28 retransmission sites across the Remote Central and Eastern Australia (RCEA) licence area. Our broadcast footprint spans more than 3.6 million square kilometres across six states and territories, reaching over 200 remote First Nations communities and an estimated audience of more than one million viewers daily.

In addition to television broadcasting, Imparja provides capacity for 14 Aboriginal radio services, all uplinked via the Optus Belrose satellite facility and available on the Viewer Access Satellite Television (VAST) service. Imparja continues to build on its legacy as a trailblazer in First Nations media, balancing cultural responsibility with creative ambition and commercial sustainability.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Primary Purpose & Function of the Role

Based in Alice Springs, with regular travel to retransmission sites across Imparja’s licence area, including remote Aboriginal communities, the RF Technician is a critical member of the Engineering and Technical Services team, reporting to the Executive, Technical Services.

This is a hands-on, field-based role at the heart of our broadcast operations. You’ll be responsible for the maintenance, fault response and optimisation of RF transmission and reception systems including broadcast, satellite and wireless infrastructure that underpin the delivery of television services to communities across our footprint.

Day to day, you’ll be responding to faults and restoring services, carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance, conducting Proof of Performance testing, and supporting the installation and commissioning of new equipment. You’ll work independently in the field, participate in an on-call roster, supervise contractors, and provide technical support to first-in maintainers and non-technical staff.

You’ll also contribute to something bigger supporting Media Organisations and VAST TV services in regional and remote communities. Our team is growing so playing an active role in the mentoring and development of technical staff and trainees, including Aboriginal staff within the team is ongoing. The role contributes to Goals 4 and 5 of Imparja’s Strategic Plan 2025–2030.
